If I Fell - 1964 - The Beatles

Recorded in 15 takes on Feb 27th
with John & Paul singing (at their
request) into one microphone.
Heavier drum sound came at George
Martin's suggestion at take 3 and John's
punchy guitar opening at take 11. 

With nearly all the songs written,
they started shooting the film (at
that time untitled) on March 2nd.
Ringo made the comment
"it's been a hard day's night" on
April 13th, another song was written
accordingly, and then the single, the LP
and the film were all released on the
same day - July 10th.
Sales, needless to say, were huge.

"If I fell" was seen by some as
a natural progression from the song
"This Boy" recorded in 17 takes
on October 17, 1963 and released
(almost as a throw-away B-side)
on their huge single "I Wanna Hold your Hand"
on November 29th.

It stormed the charts in England, replacing
"She Loves You" at number one and broke the
band in America, going straight to number one
over there also within 3 weeks of its release
in January 1964

(a TV show with Morcambe and Wise)
