Geographical Population spread in 2020

• 61% of the earth live in the Northern Temperate Zone (i.e. above the Tropic of Cancer)
• 27% of the earth live in the Northern Torrid Zone (between the Equator and the Tropic of Cancer)
• 9% of the earth live in the Southern Torrid Zone (between the Equator and the Tropic of Capricorn)
• 3% of the earth live in the Southern Temperate Zone (below the Tropic of Capricorn)
• Less than 1% of the earth (perhaps 15 million at the outside) live in the northern polar and subpolar regions which cover much of Alaska and Canada, the north of Scandinavia and Siberia, all of Greenland and Iceland, and the Shetland Islands and the Cairngorms in Scotland.
  In the southern polar and subpolar regions the population is very mininimal, pretty much research staff only.

Reporting by continents, most estimates show the population in the southern hemisphere as around one billion

• *Africa say ca 420 million
• South America say ca 330 million
• Indonesia in Asia say ca 250 million
• and Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and most of Oceania ca 44 million
